Youth Voice is one of our most important values!

We recognize youth as partners in the decision making process. The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) creates a space for each young person to take ownership and affect change.

About the Youth Advisory Council

The goal of the YAC is to bring authentic youth voice to our work by creating a group of active, contributing members who can be service-learning trainers, builders of community, champions of NYLC, board members, and so much more!

By joining the YAC, young people build authentic leadership skills, impact their communities, address real world issues, and contribute to the success of NYLC. The YAC is for US-based young people in grades 9-11 who are ready to learn, grow, and actively participate in NYLC programming and a group service-learning project.

Be a Leader

  • Join a team who is passionate about making positive change.

  • Develop leadership skills through training, retreats, virtual gatherings, and more!

  • Work alongside NYLC staff throughout the year, including at the National Service-Learning Conference®.
  • Inspire youth from around the world as you plan, prepare, and lead the Annual Youth Leadership Summit.

Applications for the Youth Advisory Council are now closed. Please check back in Spring 2024.

“The YAC is a lot of fun. It’s important of course to realize that we have responsibilities and take initiative with our leadership, but the team is also a fun place to be and also to meet new people to grow socially! I’ve grown a lot as a leader, but it wasn’t a painful process in the least.”

The YAC is a place where ideas are challenged and conversations are held to bring innovative solutions to exacerbating problems. So join the youth advisory council to not just spark change but to mold something that is bigger than yourself to serve others while having fun in the process.”
